Globe consumer reporter leaving to become magazine editor

Bruce Mohl, the consumer reporter and consumer interest columnist on the Boston Globe’s business desk, is leaving the paper to become editor of CommonWealth magazine, according to a brief in Wednesday’s paper.

Bruce MohlThe item stated, “CommonWealth is a quarterly journal of Massachusetts politics and civic life published by the Massachusetts Institute for a New Commonwealth, a nonpartisan think tank also known as MassINC. Mohl, 53, will start next month. He began his career as a copy editor at the Globe in 1978.

“Mohl served as State House bureau chief in the late 1980s and worked on the Spotlight Team, which won the Gerald Loeb award in 1992 for coverage of conflicts of interest in the state’s pension system.”

Mohl’s business coverage focused on evaluating retail sectors affecting consumers including telecommunications, airfares, and retail in Boston and beyond. He also writes about auto and travel insurance. He was previously the political editor.
