Fusion chief executive officer Isaac Lee sent out the following staff announcement on Friday:

Hola Fusion,

Alexis Madrigal and our friends in the Bay Area have been working fast to assemble a remarkably talented bureau to cover technology and the future for Fusion. Today we are excited to announce several key additions to that team including Kashmir Hill and Kevin Roose.

Kashmir comes to us from Forbes, where she established herself as the single most interesting and accessible writer on the culture and technology of privacy. Her intelligence, deep knowledge, and sense of narrative in this vital area make her work essential reading for anyone who wants to understand what we’ll hide and reveal in the future. She’ll be a Senior Editor, mostly writing, and helping Alexis dream up interesting events.

Kevin comes to us from New York magazine, where his deep, nimble coverage of the technology industry and the culture it has created in the Bay Area earned him instant recognition and deep respect. He’s one of the best and most versatile young reporters anywhere, and he already has two bestselling books to his name. He’ll write for our digital platform, co-executive produce the forthcoming TV show the bureau will create, and will help manage the editorial team there.

These two fantastic journalists will help lead our efforts in Silicon Valley along with Alexis Madrigal. They join a diverse and multitalented bureau that will also include Pendarvis Harshaw, Cara Rose De Fabio, and Daniela Hernandez.

Pendarvis is a writer, mediamaker, and photographer who recently graduated from UC Berkeley Journalism. He’s been doing a wonderful series on authority for California Sunday Magazine, in addition to teaching and working on a series of narrative portraits around his hometown of Oakland. He’ll be working across all three of the Bureau’s activities, and will be an associate producer on the show.

Cara Rose is a performance artist and director, who has also worked in the fashion industry. Her performances use and critique technology in unexpected ways, which has landed her on the front page of The San Francisco Chronicle, among other places. She will be working as our experience designer, working with Alexis on producing events, and will be contributing her prodigious emoji skills across the bureau.

Daniela is the only person with a doctorate on the team. She received her PhD from Columbia in neurobiology, then went on to the UC Santa Cruz science writing program. She’s written about artificial intelligence for Wired, and on a wide variety of health and technology topics for other outlets. She will be senior writer, going deep on the science and technologies of the future.

Alexis has assembled a truly dynamic team in the Bay Area that is uniquely positioned to explore the trends that will shape our future. Their collective creativity and curiosity is contagious and I cannot wait for them to all get started in the weeks ahead.
