OLD Media Moves

Fox Biz audience growing

August 12, 2009

Brian Stelter of the New York Times has numbers from Nielsen Media about Fox Business Network‘s audience.

Stelter writes, “Fox Business still has qualms about the reliability of Nielsen’s numbers. But its executives are now pointing to year-over-year growth and saying ‘the trend is our friend.’

“Responding to a request by The New York Times this week, Nielsen provided ratings for Fox Business for the month of June. It said more recent ratings were not yet available to the public. In June, Fox Business was watched by an average of 21,000 people during the hours Fox deems its ‘business day’: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“In prime time — between the hours of 8 and 11 p.m. — Fox Business averaged 29,000 viewers.

“Nielsen said Fox had nearly doubled its prime time ratings compared to the same month in 2008, when it averaged 17,000 viewers. Comparisons of its ‘business day’ were not possible because the channel’s ratings were too low to be reportable in June 2008.”
