The New York Post’s Keith Kelly writes that Fortune magazine managing editor Andy Serwer is making a counter-offensive move to the Conde Nast Portfolio launch next week by unveiling a new cover for its Fortune 500 issue.

Andy SerwerKelly wrote, “Serwer, who took over as managing editor of the Time Inc. business magazine in October after the ouster of Eric Pooley, today unveils a jazzy new cover of the magazine’s vaunted Fortune 500 issue.

“Serwer, a veteran Fortune staffer, was picked by Huey, Time Inc.’s editor-in-chief, to be the top editor to quell staff unrest that had built during the short-lived Pooley era. (Pooley has been taken care of and has since returned to Time magazine, where he is now an editor at large.)

“Ironically, the redesign is replacing some of the changes that were instituted by Huey when he started his charge up the Time Inc. masthead by turning Fortune into one of the hottest business books around. It has since fallen on harder times.

“The last redesign was done by Milton Glazer of Glazer & Bernard.

“‘I loved that cover, but I wanted something fresh to put my own stamp on it,’ said Serwer.”
