Fortune AME Gallagher leaving for Google

Leigh Gallagher, an assistant managing editor at Fortune, has been hired by Google to be a director of external affairs.

She will be based in New York.

“I’ll miss my friends and colleagues dearly, and I can’t wait to watch Fortune continue to grow and its exciting future unfold under its new owner,” said Gallagher on LinkedIn. “But I am also thrilled and excited for the new adventure!”

Gallagher has been with Fortune since April 2007, first as a senior editor and then as assistant managing editor.

She wrote and edited feature stories covering a variety of industries and help steer editorial direction for Fortune and Fortune.com.

Gallagher also co-chaired the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit and Fortune Brainstorm Tech and acted as executive director of the Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit.

Gallagher is also the author of two books, “The Airbnb Story: How Three Ordinary Guys Disrupted an Industry, Made Billions…and Created Plenty of Controversy” (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2017) and “The End of the Suburbs: Where the American Dream is Moving.” (Portfolio, 2013)

She previously worked for Forbes and SmartMoney magazines.
