Peter Dawson has been hired as a sports business reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Dawson said he will be covering everything from ticket sales, to craft beers, to arena financing and how teams make money. His primary boss will be a sports editor, but he will also work with the business news desk.

“I’ve been fortunate to be given this opportunity to stick my hand in a lot of different pots,” said Dawson in a phone interview. “This market is rich with teams that have been good in the past.”

Dawson joined the paper this week and has been covering the business angle of the Oklahoma-Texas football game, which is Saturday and held in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. He previously worked at MontanaSports.com for the past seven months and at InsideCarolina.com, which covers UNC sports.

“On the business side of it, the two owners specifically — Jerry Jones and Mark Cuban — add an extra level of intrigue,” said Dawson. “Jerry Jones has been in the news literally every hour of every day of this week. And Mark Cuban hasn’t been shy about expressing his opinions. And it’s a business.”

Dawson holds a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
