Fast Company hires McCracken as tech editor

Tech journalist Harry McCracken, who resigned from Time magazine a month ago, will be joining Fast Company as its technology editor.

His first day will be July 21.

McCracken writes, “Why Fast Company? Well, I’ve been a fan since its first issue appeared almost two decades ago. But what I’m excited about is its future.

The publication is committed to excellence in print and online, a fact which its peers in the American Society of Magazine Editors recently celebrated by naming it as Magazine of the Year. Just as important, it’s produced by people who are scrappy, curious, and willing to experiment, traits which are reflected in the fact that much of the brand’s web presence consists of excellent specialized sites such as Co.Design. It’s going to be a fun, challenging place to be. (I’m going to stay based in San Francisco, but will visit my NYC colleagues regularly.)

“As for the future of Technologizer–things are going to be quieter here, as I dedicate my days and brain cells to my new gig. Stuff of exactly the same sort which I would have published here or on TIME in the past will be part of Fast Company moving forward, a prospect which delights me.”
