Robert Reed, the new business columnist at the Chicago Tribune, writes about how he’s approaching the position.

Reed writes, “For the better part of the last three decades, I’ve enjoyed reporting on the universe of business, finance and commerce, as well as analyzing and opining about its tremendous impact on everyday people.

“Throughout, my concentration has been on charting the highs, lows and in-between of Chicago-area business, one of the world’s most dynamic, complex and, at times, frustrating subjects.

“That focus will be the essence of this column, which will strive to look beyond breaking news events, stock market gyrations and abstract business-speak. In short, I’ll seek to explain business to the community and the community to business.

“I come to this new assignment more curious than ever about the role of Chicago business amid these ever-changing and hard-charging times.”
