ESPN announced Wednesday that it has signed sports business reporter Darren Rovell to a multi-year contract extension.
Rovell will continue his multi-platform role, reporting for ESPN across television, digital and audio. Since returning to ESPN in 2012, Rovell has covered player contracts, endorsements, merchandise and memorabilia sales, event ticketing and esports.
Rovell served as sports business writer for ESPN.com from 2000-06, regularly appearing on “SportsCenter” and “Outside the Lines,” as well as weekly segments on ESPNEWS.
“I’ve spent a decade of my career with ESPN and I’m extremely happy to be back for more,” said Rovell in a statement. “The thrill of being on SportsCenter is the same for me as it was when I appeared for the first time in February 2001. On the digital and social side, the executive team here – from John Kosner and Rob King to Chad Millman, Ryan Spoon and Nate Ravitz – are the most supremely qualified people I’ve ever worked with to embrace the challenges of the ever changing media landscape.”
Between 2006 and 2012, Rovell reported on sports business for CNBC, hosting a sports business show, “SportsBiz: Game On,” on the NBC Sports Network.
