Jodi Schwan, the editor of the Sioux Falls Business Journal, is leaving the publication to run her own company.

Schwan writes, “When I joined the Business Journal in 2011, I hadn’t anticipated returning to the media industry. But when I left, to join Sioux Falls city government in 2006, I told myself that if I ever did come back to journalism I would be better at the profession for having left it.

“I think – hope – that became the case.

“So now, I am charting a new course again. This time, working for myself. After years of writing about other businesses, I’m going to learn what it’s like to run one. That’s equal parts exciting and daunting, but I believe the Sioux Falls business community is going to support me as I’ve seen it do for many, many others.

“First, though, I can’t help but reflect a little.

“I inherited a strong brand in the Business Journal. For that, I thank Rob Swenson, my former editor, who hired me and then left me with invaluable institutional knowledge before he retired in 2012.”
