Dow Jones Newswires names new special projects editor

April 24, 2008

Hammad Jawdat has been named editor of special projects for Dow Jones Newswires, according to a memo Thursday from Rick Stine, senior editor of the Americas.

Stine wrote, “We have a number of new editorial initiatives being studied that, if approved, will require the guidance of an editor with Hammad’s broad background in news and management. In his new position as Editor, Special Projects, Hammad will continue to report to me.

“Hammad has been managing editor of the Global Editing Desk in Harborside for the past ten years. During that time, the desk has taken on more responsibilities and handled increased volumes of copy while new editing systems have been introduced. Before that, Hammad oversaw Latin American and money coverage for Capital Markets Report.

“Before joining Dow Jones in 1993, Hammad was foreign editor for the St. Petersburg Times and he served on the desk, and as a reporter, for United Press International in Washington, Asia and the Middle East.

“I hope to soon announce a replacement for Hammad.”
