Dow Jones names global managing director
Katie Vanneck Smith, the president and chief customer officer of Dow Jones, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:
I am pleased to announce that Jonny Wright has been promoted to the role of Global Managing Director, Dow Jones.
Jonny’s leadership has been instrumental in helping define and drive The Wall Street Journal’s growth outside of the U.S. Under his watch, memberships have grown substantially – digital being a significant part of this growth. In fact, we’ve seen a year-over-year uptick in subscriptions in EMEA by 48 percent and in APAC by 133 percent.
Jonny and his team have led the way in forging new commercial partnerships and they have successfully expanded our live journalism offering with the first-ever CEO Council in Tokyo, Investing in Africa in London and WSJD.Live in Hong Kong.
As Global Managing Director, Jonny will take responsibility for working with all business units and product lines across Dow Jones, galvanizing our local leadership and management teams to accelerate our growth around the globe. He will also take on a board role in each of our international acquisitions, having recently been appointed Director of News Corp’s VCCircle, which is one of India’s leading information services businesses, and Newspicks, our new U.S.-based joint venture with Uzabase.
Jonny continues to report to me as part of the Customer Leadership Team and Executive Leadership Team.
Please join me in congratulating Jonny on his new role. I know he is eager to discuss any thoughts or ideas you may have on the next chapter in our global growth.
