Crain CommunicationCrain Communications Inc., which operates business news weeklies in Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland and New York, is planning to augment coverage in those cities with news from around the country.

The company is currently seeking freelance editors in Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, Dallas and Houston to write original and curate content.

The move, said Rance Crain, president and editorial director of the company, is designed to expand the company’s “national coverage with some local news and some aggregation. Just beefing up where we think we need it.”

In an email exchange with Talking Biz News, Crain said that the content would begin appearing in the fall, but would only appear in its city publications, such as Crain’s New York Business, not its specialty publications such as Advertising Age and Pensions & Investments.

The job descriptions say Crain’s is looking for someone who “enjoys uncovering newsworthy stories on business and national beats from websites, social media and other publicly-available sources of data.”
