OLD Media Moves

Coming Wednesday and Thursday

June 19, 2006

Talking Biz News will be posting reports Wednesday night and Thursday from business journalism symposium “The State — and Future — of Business Journalism” being held at the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

The keynote speaker Wednesday night is Linda O’Bryon, the senior vice president and general manager of NBR Enterprises/WPBT2, which produces Nightly Business Report, seen nationally on more than 250 public television stations. Nightly Business Report has been credited for spawning the genre of daily business news on television.

Speakers Thursday include Bloomberg News’ personal finance columnist John Wasik talking about how this genre of business reporting can be improved and Washington & Lee business journalism professor Pam Luecke, who will be taking a look at the future of business journalism.

Newsweek’s Allan Sloan, the Wall Street editor and four-time Loeb Award winner, will be running a panel on what’s wrong with business journalism, while other panels will take a look at the relationship between business journalists and CEOs and the ethical concerns of the field.
