Liz Heitzman, the business editor of the Columbia Tribune in Missouri, is leaving the paper for a nine-month fellowship at the University of Missouri, which is also based in Columbia.
Heitzman wrote, “For the past two years, I have been the Tribune’s business editor. From a redesign of this section to the addition of daily theme business pages, it’s been a dynamic time. In this role, I’ve transitioned away from daily reporting and instead coach and mentor reporters like Kevin Coleman and Pamela Mulumby, who have taught me much about being an editor.
“The first time I was mentioned in the Tribune was in November 1977. My folks were living in El Chaparral – my father worked in banking, and my mother was a piano teacher. I was born the day after Halloween.
“It’s been an honor to have been here all these years. I’m always going to have history with this newspaper. And I’ll always be thankful to Jim Robertson for bringing me back into the business.”
