Amanda Andrews, the media editor of The Telegraph in London, interviewed CNBC president Mark Hoffman about the business news channel’s international expansion plans.

Andrews writes, “CNBC’s growth story, says Hoffman, will come from geographical expansion. He reveals plans for significant expansion into new territories, with Brazil and Mexico high on the agenda for new CNBC channels.

“‘We’re studying Brazil, Mexico and other parts of Latin America to see what makes the most sense for us. We were in Brazil a few weeks ago and it is an impressive, evolved media marketplace,’ says Hoffman, who is looking at a number of emerging economies.

“‘Brazil is a very interesting place because the story is so compelling. In terms of the commitment of editorial assets, it makes sense… So, we’re interested in Brazil – there’s no question about it. There are stories to be told and there is tremendous growth happening. And businesses are attracted to growth.'”

“While he says Russia is a ‘complicated’ market to move into, it is also on the agenda.”
