Changes coming at Tallahassee Democrat biz section

February 25, 2007

Tallahassee Democrat business editor Steve Liner tells readers Sunday that the paper is looking for new columnist for its Sunday section and wants suggestions on what kind of advice they are looking for in that slot.

Tallahassee DemocratLiner wrote, “For Sundays, we are looking for a group of new voices on business topics for you. We have planned five new column slots – one for every week of the month, plus another for the two or three times each year when a month has five Sundays. I would be grateful for your ideas on what you need in expert advice to fill those slots, and I promise we will be responsive as we finalize the plan.

“In a couple of months, Business & Growth (now Business & Editorial) will follow the Sports section down the path of redesign. As is happening in Sports, we are hoping to bring you much more in terms of local news. The new name signifies what we already have heard from you: Growth is important. And, naturally, growth is critical to businesses everywhere.

“The overarching goals are to make your business pages more local in character and to give you more of a say in what we do.

“But these goals don’t just relate to the printed version of the Democrat. Oh, no, not by a long shot. We are working hard to bring you new features in print and online. An imperative for us is to let you know online what we’re working on and what we find out pretty close in real time to when we get information. If you have not already learned to go to Tallahassee.com routinely for the most up-to-date business news, you should start generating that habit.”
