October 28, 2009

Neil Cavuto may be the head of Fox Business Network, but he also appears on Fox News and put in his strongest month of the year there in October, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

In both total viewers and the 25 to 54 age group, “Your World with Neil Cavuto” had its best month in 2009 and was the only cable news program in the 4 p.m. time slot to increase in the 25 to 54 demographic — 2008 was an election year and most programs were down year-to-year.

“Your World” was also the sixth highest-rated program in cable news, based on total viewers, for the month.

“Your World” had its highest rated month of the year with 1,645,000 total viewers and 343,000 in the 25 to 54 demographic, this October. “Your World” is up 3 percent in the demographic compared to last year, whereas competing shows “The Situation Room,” “MSNBC Live,” “CNN Headline News” and CNBC’s “Closing Bell” are all down compared to last year.

On Oct. 14, when the Dow Jones industrial average hit 10,000, “Your World” had 1,663,000 in total viewers and 321,000 in the 25 to 54 demographic. In comparison, CNN’s “Situation Room” had 709,000 in total viewers and 108,000 in the 25 to 54 demographic, and MSNBC’s “MSNBC Live” had a 312,000 in total viewers and 102,000 in the key demo. CNBC’s “Closing Bell” had 370,000 total viewers and 101,000 viewers in the 25 to 54 age group.

“Business Block” on Saturdays, which Cavuto oversees, saw growth in both total viewers to 1,022,000, up 20 percent and in the 25 to 54 demographic with 311,000, up 16 percent. That’s for the year to date compared to the same time period in 2008.

“Cavuto on Business,” which Cavuto specifically anchors, also saw tremendous growth across the board with 1,239,000 in total viewers, up 27 percent, and 330,000 viewers, up 24 percent, in the key 25 to 54 demographic.
