John Cox has been hired as the business editor at The Bakersfield Californian.

A story on its website states, “Cox worked for the company as a staff writer covering business news for more than 10 years starting in 2006. Most recently, he wrote about technology, energy, health care and the economy for the San Diego Business Journal.

“In his new position, Cox will oversee business coverage for TBC Media. This will include writing and editing original content for publication online and in print.

“‘John is the consummate professional journalist with a deep, institutional knowledge base of Bakersfield and greater Kern County,’ said Jim Lawitz, vice president & executive editor of TBC Media. ‘He knows the players, the institutions and the economic factors that drive our region’s financial performance. We welcome his return.’

“Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism at California State University, Long Beach. His career in journalism has taken him from the Los Angeles Times, where he started reporting news while in college, to publications such as Hispanic Business magazine and the Long Beach Press-Telegram.”
