California biz editor moves to opinion section

February 24, 2008

Eric Grunder, the money editor at the Stockton Record in California, is moving to the opinions section after 17-plus years running the paper’s business coverage.

Eric GrunderGrunder wrote, “Monday, I move to the opinion page, a Record section handled with aplomb for the last decade by Kevin Parrish. Of the two of us, I got the better deal. Kevin will oversee operations of the merged (but always too small) business and metro staffs. He’ll spend his days in the wind tunnel; I will spend my days pontificating.

“It was a good run in business. For 17 years it was my pleasure to work with some of the finest reporters to come through The Record. During those years I worked with 13 business reporters, a number indicating remarkable staff stability in a business where turnover is common. Most recently, for example, the business section staffers included a former city editor, a former features editor and a former copy desk chief, pros with nearly 100 years of combined experience.

“People like that make editors look better than they are, and these hard-working, caring professionals certainly did that in my case. I’ll miss working with them as closely as I have over the years. They will continue reporting for Record readers.”
