OLD Media Moves

Business reporters getting Facebook groupies

April 1, 2011

The Wall Street Journal has begun adding Facebook “like” buttons to the bio pages of some of its writers.

The paper started rolling it out last night on some reporter and topics pages and will continue to throughout Friday, said a spokeswoman.

Users who ‘like’ – for example – famed tech writer Walt Mossberg will get his future columns published to them in their Facebook news feeds. They can ‘like’ him on his topic page or next to his hedcut on individual columns.

Mossberg only has four “likes,” so the program is obviously just getting started. Deputy managing editor Alan Murray does not have the “like” button yet on his bio. Neither does managing editor Robert Thomson‘s bio.

The bio of Emily Steel, a Journal reporter who writes frequently about Facebook, is also currently without the “like” button.
