Biz mags among top 10 covers for 2006

December 19, 2006

Advertising Age’s Nat Ives picked a cover from the Economist and a cover from Wired as two of his top 10 magazine covers for the year.

Here they are:

The EconomistNo. 2 was The Economist. “It may have been the last time anyone laughed when they saw Kim Jong-il, but The Economist gets props for a great joke about a terrible situation-North Korean missile tests. The American Society of Magazine Editors gave it third place in its cover-of-the-year competition.”

No. 4 was Wired. “Midway through what would turn out to be the Year of Colbert, Stephen Colbert took a hacksaw to an iPod to illustrate the ‘How To’ cover feature, which included ‘Be an Expert at Everything!’ (by Stephen Colbert) and “How to Hack Your iPod.” It looks so fun we still want to try it.”

See the covers and the rest of the top 10 here. Of the top magazine covers in the past 40 years, as picked by ASME, The Economist is the only one in the top 25. See its list here.
