Angel Coker has been hired as the new banking and legal reporter at the Birmingham Business Journal.

Managing editor Stephanie Rebman writes, “Coker gained valuable journalism experience as a general assignment and beat reporter for The Tuscaloosa News. While there she reported on the Tuscaloosa County Commission, Northport City Council and also covered the health beat, including the DCH Health System and the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center.

“During her time in journalism, Coker has won a first-place award from Associated Press Media Editors for deadline reporting and two third-place awards for feature and sports reporting. In 2015, she earned a third-place award in news coverage from the Alabama Press Association for coverage of ‘Bloody Tuesday.’

“‘Angel’s experience will make her an asset to the newsroom as she dives into covering some of Birmingham’s most important industries and issues,’ said BBJ Editor-in-Chief Ty West.

“Coker, a Vernon native, said she is eager for outdoor adventures in Birmingham with her dog, getting involved in arts efforts in the community and delving into her beat.”
