BBC to begin review of business coverage

The BBC will begin an evaluation of how it covers business and economic issues, according to a story in the Sunday Telegraph.

BBCAndrew Murray-Watson wrote, “The move follows a similar independent assessment of the corporation’s coverage of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians earlier this year.

“It is believed that the BBC governance unit is close to appointing a panel of independent experts to judge the broadcaster’s business output.

“The panel will look at whether there is sufficient business coverage on the BBC and whether coverage is accessible to the general public and those without specialist knowledge of the subject.

“An executive close to the board of governors at the BBC said the independent panel would begin its review early in the new year.

“He said: ‘Business news is now more important than it ever has been. Business now encroaches into nearly all areas of public life and there is a growing appreciation that the BBC has to do more to address that.'”
