Barron’s adds five staffers in art, photo
Chris Mihal, the editorial design director at Barron’s, sent out the following announcement on Monday:
As many of you know, the Art Department is in the middle of a major transition to a digital-first workflow. While it’s been a difficult process, it has been a necessary one. I’m excited to welcome a new group of designers, who I believe bring the skills and experience we need to produce smart, engaging visuals and help position Barron’s for the future.
One member of the team (Zak) has been here for a couple weeks now; and four new members start on Monday, March 19th.
Zak Bickel, Art Director
Zak comes from The Atlantic where he was an Associate Art Director designing features as well as front-of-the-book and back-of-the-book pages. Prior to that he was at The Washington Post Express and did internships at Food Network Magazine and The New Republic.
Lynne Carty, Art Director
Lynne comes from MIT Technology Review, where she was a Senior Designer art directing features, departments and advertisements. Prior to that she interned at Sports Illustrated.
Annie Chia, Director of Photography
Annie comes from Fast Company where she was a Photo Editor conceptualizing, producing and art directing portrait and still-life photography. Prior to that she freelanced at NBC Universal, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and was the Photo Director at Out Magazine.
Joel Arbaje, Photo Editor
Joel comes from Men’s Health magazine where, as the Multimedia Photo Creator, he shot portraiture, lifestyle and still life photography and ran social for the Art Department. Prior to that he worked with Annie at Fast Company and spent time at Resident Magazine.
Nicole Silver, Part-Time Photo Editor
Nicole comes to the team as a freelancer producing photo and video for numerous brands. Prior to that she was at Instyle.com and RollingStone.com
Please come by and say hello when you have a free moment. If you have any questions at all for me, please don’t hesitate. We are hoping to fill the last position – Art Director, Data Visualization – very soon.
