Douglas BanksDouglas Banks has been named the new editor of the Boston Business Journal, effective Jan. 5.

A story on its website states, “Banks is returning to the BBJ after serving the past three years as associate vice president for economic development at the University of Massachusetts President’s Office, where his duties included developing strategic partnerships with state and federal government, business and industry, and other institutions of higher education. He also managed a seed-fund investment program to drive new faculty-research projects.

“‘Doug’s knowledge of Boston business and his past experience with the Boston Business Journal and Mass High Tech make this an exciting hire,’ said Gale Murray, BBJ publisher of the Business Journal.

“‘He knows how important a business journal is to the business community. I’m very happy that he’ll be leading our newsroom of talented business journalists.’

“Before joining UMass, Banks was publisher and editor of BBJ sister publication Mass High Tech. While leading MHT, he launched multiple digital products, including a new website and a family of e-newsletters, and helped dramatically grow its events business.”
