An emphasis on jobs coverage

January 23, 2011

Lois Wilson, the managing editor of the Elmira Star-Gazette, writes Sunday about the papers emphasis on providing coverage for people looking for jobs.

Wilson writes, “Every Sunday through March, you’ll see a story related to jobs on the front page. On Jan. 2 and 9, Star-Gazette business reporter G. Jeffrey Aaron looked at the regional jobs outlook for 2011 and the jobs of the future in the Southern Tier, respectively. Today’s story is written by Paul Wiseman of USA Today and focuses on the possibility of a new permanent jobless class.

“Next week, we plan to profile a small, local business that is adding jobs. Small businesses, specifically newer businesses, are more likely to add jobs and therefore stimulate the economy. If you’re a job-seeker, this is good information to have and we’re hoping to provide tidbits such as this through the coming months.

“Other stories we have planned include: how resumes have changed and how you can change with them; how to reinvent yourself and transfer your skills from job to job; the importance and tools of networking; what it means to be a temporary worker, and how to create your dream job.”
