Caleb Silver, director of business news for CNN/CNNMoney, sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

I am thrilled to share with you that Cristina Alesci will be joining CNN and the new CNNMoney team as a correspondent beginning next month.

Cristina comes to us from Bloomberg Television where her industry-leading coverage of high-profile deals and major dealmakers frequently made headlines. As Bloomberg TV’s Deals Reporter, Cristina also covered New York City’s start-up community and the sports, music and entertainment industries, and contributed to Businessweek and Bloomberg Markets Magazine.

At CNN she¹ll join our talented roster of business news reporters and anchors as we reshape and relaunch CNNMoney across all platforms to deliver the money news that matters most to you.

Cristina was responsible for breaking news on some of the biggest and most competitive takeover battles, private equity deals and bankruptcies of the last five years, including the struggle for Dell, the buyout of Neiman Marcus and the collapse of MF Global. She also covered some of the hottest initial public offerings since the financial crisis, including Facebook, Twitter, and SeaWorld.

Her extensive reporting on private equity and the issue of carried interest also contributed to the debate on income tax reform during the 2012 presidential election and was cited by numerous publications and other media organizations.

Before joining Bloomberg, Cristina worked at Pfizer Inc. in New York and law firm Sidley Austin LLP. She received an M.A. in Journalism with honors from The City University of New York’s Graduate School of Journalism, a B.S. in Criminal Justice (magna cum laude) from Pace University, and holds a post-baccalaureate certificate in business from
Columbia University.

Please join me in welcoming Cristina to CNN and the CNNMoney team.
