ACBJ high tech paper in Boston to cut staff, printed editions

June 16, 2009

Jay Fitzgerald of the Boston Herald reports Tuesday that Mass High Tech, a paper that’s part of the American City Business Journals chain, is cutting its staff, merging its newsroom with sister publication Boston Business Journal, and cutting its print schedule to bi-weekly.

Fitzgerald writes, “Michael Olivieri, publisher of both papers, said the moves represent a ‘logical progression’ toward the Web and away from print for Mass High Tech.

“The print side of the business has been stalling while the paper’s online operation has seen ‘enormous growth,’ said Olivieri.

“The newpaper’s cutback to biweekly publication will allow Mass High Tech to focus more on its daily online content, he said. The new biweekly will be expanded to 32 pages from 24 pages and contain more in-depth stories.

“Mass High Tech and the BBJ’s now separate newsrooms at 160 Federal St. will be ‘blended’ together to create ‘efficiencies,’ the newspaper said.”
