Emory ThomasEmory Thomas Jr., the chief content officer of American City Business Journals, has been named the publisher of ACBJ’s Seattle newspaper, the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Rob Smith of the paper writes, “Thomas has been chief content officer at American City Business Journals — parent company of the Puget Sound Business Journal — for the past four years. In that post, Thomas led a company-wide reinvention of ACBJ’s content strategy, giving it an aggressive digital footing that emphasizes breaking news and developing a more robust print product.

“Prior to that, he served as publisher of the Puget Sound Business Journal from 2006 to 2011 and as editor from 2004 to 2006.

“’I am beyond thrilled to be returning to Seattle at such a momentous time in this great city’s evolution,’ Thomas said. ‘Seattle is home for my family and me, and I look forward to connecting the Business Journal even more deeply into the fabric of this fascinating region. It is my expectation, and my aim, for the Business Journal, like the city it inhabits, to serve as a beacon for innovation.’

“During his tenure as publisher, PSBJ was named a Pulitzer finalist for its coverage of the downfall of Washington Mutual. As editor, Thomas led the paper to numerous awards, including a general excellence recognition from the Society of American Business Editors & Writers.”
